Solid 18k rose gold, and the weight tells you before the eye does. This is the top of the Super Chronomat line: a 44mm case cut entirely from rose gold, capped with a brown ceramic bezel and the four gold rider tabs that have identified a Chronomat since 1984. Where the steel versions read as tool watches, this one reads as jewelry that happens to keep chronometer time.

The brown dial is the reason to own this particular reference. It shifts with the light - warm chocolate under a lamp, near-anthracite in shade - and the three silver azurage counters sit against it with real contrast rather than the muddy tone-on-tone you get from most brown chronograph dials. Applied gold and white indices, a red central chronograph seconds hand, and the date tucked into the six o'clock register.

Inside is the Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01: in-house, automatic, 47 jewels, 70 hours of reserve, COSC-certified, and visible through the sapphire caseback. Column wheel, vertical clutch, quarter-second chronograph with 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers. It is Breitling's own movement and one of the better integrated chronograph calibers made at any price.

CONDITION
Excellent pre-owned and running as it should. Light handling marks consistent with careful wear are visible on the case, caseback and clasp under close inspection - nothing deep or distracting. Brown ceramic bezel is clean. Mild wear on anti-reflective coating of the sapphire crystal.
